Delivery Checklist

Getting ready for your new furniture delivery is key to ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience. Here’s a checklist to help you prepare:

1. Measure Your Space

  • Doorways: Measure the width and height of all doorways the furniture will pass through. Ensure that the furniture can fit through without damaging your new furniture or your walls.
  • Ceiling Height: Measure the ceiling height in areas where the furniture will be moved. This is especially important for tall items like wardrobes or large cabinets.
  • Ideal Clearance: For example a 3-seater sofa that is 222 cm in length and height, the ceiling height should be at least 250 cm. This provides an additional 28 cm of clearance, which is typically enough to maneuver the sofa safely without hitting the ceiling.

Navigating Tight Spaces:

  • Angling the Sofa: In cases where the ceiling height is closer to the height of the sofa, the delivery team may need to angle the sofa during the move. Ensure there’s enough space in the room to accommodate this maneuver.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ceiling Fixtures: Ensure that light fixtures, ceiling fans, or other hanging elements are not in the way. The extra height needed to tilt the sofa could bring it close to these fixtures.

Lifts, Stairwells and Hallways:

  • Lift Dimensions: If you live in a building with a lift, measure the lifts’s height, width, and depth. Check the weight limit as well, to ensure the elevator can handle the furniture piece.
  • Height Considerations: If the sofa needs to be carried up a stairwell or through a hallway, make sure there’s enough vertical space to maneuver. Even if the ceiling height in the final room is adequate, the sofa might need to pass through areas with lower ceilings.
  • Stairwells: Measure the width, height, and turning radius of any stairwells. Don’t forget to account for handrails, light fixtures, and landings.

2. Clear the Path

  • Remove Obstacles: Ensure all walkways, hallways, and stairwells are clear of any obstacles.
  • Protect Floors and Walls: Consider laying down protective coverings on floors to prevent scratches or damage. Remove wall decor like pictures or mirrors that could be knocked during the delivery.
  • Keep Pets and Children Safe: For their safety and to avoid distractions, keep pets and children in a separate area during the delivery.

3. Plan for Placement

  • Identify the Exact Location: Decide in advance where the furniture will go, and make sure the space is clear.
  • Check Ceiling Fixtures: Ensure there’s enough clearance from ceiling lights, fans, or other fixtures.

4. Communicate with the Delivery Team

  • Provide Instructions: If there are any special instructions for accessing your home (e.g., specific parking locations, security codes, etc.), make sure the delivery team is informed ahead of time.
  • Be Present: Make sure you or someone you trust is present to accept the delivery, guide the team, and inspect the furniture once it’s inside.

5. Inspect Your Furniture

  • Check for Damage: Before the delivery team leaves, carefully inspect the furniture for any signs of damage. Report any issues immediately.

By following this checklist, you’ll be well-prepared for your furniture delivery, ensuring everything goes smoothly from start to finish. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
