When you have hungry little people in your home, meal times can be chaotic. Your attention may be fixed on trying to get everyone seated, praying your fussy eater swallows at least one green vegetable, and hoping there isn’t any food fights at the table. It’s no wonder, people relate dining with kids to feeding time at the zoo.
Okay, so maybe it’s not that bad, but the last thing you want to worry about are dirty fingers on upholstery, a scratched table top or squished food in your beautiful (no doubt expensive) rug.
Family friendly doesn’t mean you need your design style compromised
When decorating a family friendly dining room, you have to think practicality but that doesn’t mean your design style needs to be sacrificed.
The key is to focus on hardwearing materials, like timber tables and chairs that can be wiped down. Add a sense of luxury by including upholstered chairs at the head of your table. If you desire upholstered seating throughout or cushions, ensure you choose high quality fabric which is protected from stains with a suitable fabric protection.
Add colour, print and pattern in your furniture, and decorative items like artwork, wallpaper, rugs or pillows. Be playful by including relaxed bench seating, fun lights, mixed chairs or even things to keep the kids entertained.
