Design Apps to download when renovating
Whether you’re undertaking a major renovation or simply redecorating a few rooms, these design apps are bound to make your job a whole lot easier. Don’t fret, you don’t have to be tech savvy or a Gen Y to use these apps either!
1. Houzz Interior Design Ideas
If you need inspiration, Houzz Interior Design Ideas is the perfect app for you. Not only can you browse the huge collection of interior images, you can also read editorials, locate designers and trades and create your own idea book. See Urban Rhythm on Houzz here.
The Dulux MyColour app helps you to visualise your chosen colour palette in your home without even picking up a brush. You can browse their extensive colour library or take a photo of an object or piece of furniture to find a colour match. This design app ensures there is no excuse for getting the colour wrong!
If you’re wanting to sketch up a floor plan to make sure your new furniture fits, the MagicPlan design app measures your room and creates a floor plan from your photos. It’s a good way to also visualise room layouts if you’re planning on knocking down a few walls before you consult with an architect.
4. iHandy Carpenter
Putting up some shelves and want to make sure they’re level? iHandy Carpenter is a tool for any tech savvy renovator. With a simple click it transformers your smartphone into a spirit level. There’s also a ruler, protractor and plumb bob – all trusty tools to have in your renovators kit.
5. Project Reno
One of the biggest rookie errors when renovating is not keeping a budget. No matter how big or small the job, keeping a budget will help you spend wisely and not run into financial trouble. Project Reno is the perfect too to manage your project and create a breakdown of the costs, so you can avoid putting your renovation in jeopardy.
Need help moving furniture, painting or cleaning your place before you redecorate? Airtasker is a great app to find the local trades and workers you need during your renovation. Simply post the task, select the best worker for the job and organise for the task to be completed.
If apps are not for you or you need more help with your renovation, perhaps you need to consult an interior designer or decorator. Check out our recent article on the difference between an interior decorator and an interior designer before you start your search!
